These are the accumulation of initial ideas and concepts for the whole first week, leading to the final developed concept. During the first week of Studio project 3, we had many initial ideas before settling on our final concept. Here are some other ideas we thought of and how we further developed from there, deriving onto our umbrella concept.

First Day

At the beginning stages, we brainstormed and thought of random objects, while discussing their properties.

For the first day, out of the many objects we talked about, rope was the most interesting to us and we could list out many properties from that object.

Second Day

For the second day, we carried on discussion from the previous day and listed out other objects. Such objects included paper, bolts/screws, window, wheels and thermometers.

The final four objects concluded from the day from the each of us were rope, plug, shadow and umbrella.

We took a voting and decided to further develop from umbrella.

Third Day

Before clarifying with Mr Andrew about our doubts, we did more mapping of the properties of the umbrella.

With this mapped out, we develop it to an Orchard Road flooding scene and presented this to Mr Andrew.

However, it did not go as well as Mr Andrew said that the umbrella and flood did not have any good reason to link together. It was better to focus on just once. Hence we decided to stick with the umbrella and once again, we ran through all properties of the umbrella.

Fourth Day

For the fourth day, we tried to see if we could think of other objects besides the umbrella as we were feeling rather stuck and not sure if continuing with the umbrella would be a good idea.

However, we felt that most of the ideas we had still could not be matched with the umbrella. Hence, we decided to stick with the umbrella only and just further develop the concept from there. Using its properties, we managed to enhance some of the uses digitally in a fun way. This was what we presented to Mr Andrew for our consultation.

Mr Andrew liked our idea! We would definitely be sticking to this concept, and try to develop it even further.

Fifth Day

With the final concept down, it was time to think of interfaces and themes.
