Concepts | Brainstorming
From morning right up to our group’s consultation time, it was brainstorming all the way! We were kind of stuck as we didn’t know if we should change the object or stick to it. Hence for the time being, everyone discussed and suggested different objects and ideas. Some of them included cobwebs and pulleys.
However at the end of it all, we still felt that umbrella was the most interesting and had a lot of potential. Thus, we decided to stick to using umbrella and further develop on its properties instead. We dived deeper into the subject and focused on the new properties mentioned the previous day. The movement of opening up the umbrella led to this idea of easier transition between folders. A lot of improvisation and development were further enforced from here onwards. There were some of the properties we discussed about,
• Opening of umbrella in an upwards gesture = easier spreading out and transition of files and folders
• Opening and fastening the Velcro strap = password access or hidden files
• Umbrella also can be used to hook and drag = easier duplication or moving of files
We had our consultation with Mr Andrew at 3.30pm. The result was a positive one whoohoo! He liked our idea and would be interested in seeing how it worked. Other feedback from him included,
• How to show umbrella property for easier transition of files?
• Doing out a paper prototype so that it’ll be easier for visuals and have a better understanding too

After consulting, we set to further develop on this concept. We ran through all of an umbrella’s properties again, and introduced new form of interactions to the concept, such as the movement of hook and drag. Around 8+pm when we have finally got the concept and interactions down, we did out a paper prototype for easier viewing and referencing.
